PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Enhancing the sustainability of shellfish production through the development and improvement of threshold automation for monitoring critical variables in hatchery and farm operations.
Methodlogy
This project built on a previous project to install water quality monitoring system. In this phase, sensor readings were investigated to better calibrate the quality of monitoring, followed by the development of an automated remote monitoring system designed to integrate with Manatee’s existing piping system.
Requirements from the school and teacher
Mechanical engineering knowledge, manufacturing knowledge, 3D printing and design.
Requirements from the company
Detailed knowledge of shellfish aquaculture. Layout and design of existing facility and digital systems to be integrated with the water monitoring system.
Resources
3D printers, CAD, CNC machines
Results & Achievements
An automated water quality monitoring system was developed and integrated into existing pipes capable of tracking pump house pressure and flow rate, integrating loT capabilities and developing alert threshold to mitigate risks of water supply.
Reduction of workload necessary to review shellfish production, and significant decrease in loss of harvest due to aquaculture interruptions.
