Development of a Smart Learning Factory for Automated Cone Manufacturing

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This project designs and implements a Smart Connected Learning Factory (SCLF) cell for the automated production of a milling machine cone (ISO 40). The process integrates an online order interface, an Autonomous Mobile Robot (AMR) for material handling, an articulated robot for machine tending, and a CNC lathe for machining, creating a seamless “lights-out” manufacturing demonstration.

The SCLF serves as a multidisciplinary learning environment, initially involving cycles in Collaborative Robotics, Industrial Automation, Mechanical Manufacturing, and Machining. It is designed for future expansion, including a robotic welding station, digital twin implementation, and new product lines, fully embodying Industry 4.0 principles.

GENERAL OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT

Automate the end-to-end production of an ISO 40 milling cone from online order to final dispatch.

Integrate advanced technologies including an AMR, industrial robots, and a CNC lathe within a connected cell

Develop a multidisciplinary learning environment for robotics, automation, and advanced manufacturing.

Implement and demonstrate Industry 4.0 principles using IoT control systems like PLC and Node-RED.

Create a scalable platform ready for future expansion with welding robotics and digital twin technology.
