Development of “SideBike”: An Inclusive, Adaptive Sidecar for Sustainable Mobility

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This project designs and manufactures the “SideBike,” an innovative, inclusive sidecar that attaches to a motorized bicycle, providing sustainable mobility for people with reduced mobility. It features an ergonomic, adaptable seat, assisted pedaling (hand or foot-operated), integrated safety systems, and smart connectivity including GPS and a mobile app.

The SCLF integrates all the centre’s vocational families, creating a complete value chain from user-centered design and mechanical/wooden fabrication to electronics, software development, logistics, and marketing. It embodies social responsibility, circular economy principles, and cutting-edge digitalization through digital twins, IoT, and VR/AR simulations.

GENERAL OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT

Design and manufacture an inclusive “SideBike” sidecar to provide sustainable mobility for people with reduced mobility.

Integrate all vocational families into a complete value chain from user-centered design to final marketing and maintenance.

Implement advanced digital technologies including IoT, a digital twin, and a GPS/mobile app for connectivity and monitoring.

Apply principles of circular economy, ergonomics, and social inclusion throughout the product lifecycle.

Validate the prototype through rigorous testing with end-users and ensure manufacturing scalability and maintainability.
